Books For Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is celebrated in the month of May. The month of May was chosen because it marks two important dates. On May7, 1843, the first Japanese immigrants arrive in the United States. On May 10, 1869, Golden Spike Day celebrated the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad which counted so many Chinese workers among the laborers who worked to build the western side.

Here are a bunch of booklists that include engaging books for all age levels of children that will introduce them to Asian Heritage:

Printable Coloring Sheets for the Year of the Tiger

What could be a simpler craft than a Year of the Tiger coloring sheet? These include links to printable files, so it's a snap to choose the ones you want on your print and print them up. I also like th fact that they inlcude the phrase "Happy New Year" in English, Chinese, and pinyin (a system that uses letters to indicate how the words are pronounced.) And some are soo cute! There are lots to choose from, with 15 in portrait orientation and 155 in landscape orientation. It's a quick and easy way to celebrate Chinese New Year, The Year of the Tiger.
